Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a journalist for NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has earned a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career working as a TV and radio reporter in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. She was a reporter for the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. In Washington she was named general reporter by NBC News two year later. The year 1980 marked the beginning of her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the principal journalist for Congress. In 1992, she was named the Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 chief foreign affairs reporter of NBC News. Mitchell participated on the TV program Meet the Press and also was the host for the program. She was part of the panel at 1988 Presidential Debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the spouse of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to recognize her excellence in the field of journalism. In 2004, The Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contribution to defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. It was a time when the two Ronald Reagan terms in office. She reported on a variety of interesting stories such as arms control the budget tax reform, and the Iran-contra scandal. She also was frequently with the President Reagan to summits alongside Mikhail Gorbachev and other world top leaders.
